✿ What instruments do you teach?
Guitar, Piano, and Suzuki (& Traditional) Violin.
✿ What ages do you teach?
Lessons may start at age 4, all the way to adults. Suzuki Violin students may start at age 3.
✿ What happens if the teacher is late to the lesson?
With subway delays and traffic, it happens. I will always text with an ETA and can usually go over a few minutes so the student gets their full instruction time.
✿ Who should be home during the lesson?
A parent, sitter, or guardian must be home during the lesson. This is for safety.
✿ We have pets, is that okay?
It is more than okay, I love animals!
✿ Where will in-home lessons be?
Lessons should take place in a common area, or area that is designated for student’s practice. Ideally, lessons should NOT be in a student’s bedroom. But, we live in New York City, so it’s okay if the student’s bedroom is the only option. For everyone’s safety, I do not allow closed door lessons, unless a parent or caregiver is also in the room.
✿ (For piano students) We do not have a full size piano– is that okay?
Depending on the age and level of the student, that is fine. However, as students progress, it is important to invest in a full size (88 weighted keys) keyboard or piano. In my experience, the promise of a “real” size piano is a great motivation for students to keep practicing.
✿ (For violin/guitar students) Will the teacher bring their instrument to lessons?
Typically, yes. However, for rainy days, I may leave it at home.
✿ Are there performance opportunities for my student?
Yes! There are two recitals per school year at BAX in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Ms. Buchanan serves as piano accompanist for violin students, and encourages students to perform in solos, duets, and everything in between. There is a $25 recital fee to participate; free to attend.
✿ What happens if we have to cancel a lesson?
I require 24 hours notice to guarantee a make up credit or reschedule. Without 24 hours notice, a make up credit is not granted. Please see Studio Policies for details.
